Broughton Associates, Inc. has been in business for twenty-nine years, serving all of Virginia, and parts of North Carolina, Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. We have worked over two thousand (2000) cases, and we pride ourselves in aggressive vocational rehabilitation and job placement. We have been able to bring over 80% of our cases to a successful conclusion; many of these cases have been in the Metropolitan Richmond Area.

Over the past twenty-four years, Broughton Associates, Inc. has provided services to the City of Chesapeake, City of Newport News, City of Hampton, City of Portsmouth, City of Norfolk, and City of Virginia Beach. In the past three years, we have provided Vocational Rehabilitation services for the City of Richmond. We also provided our services to the County of Henrico, Erie Insurance, Landin, State Farm Insurance, Gallagher Bassett, Virginia Farm Bureau and many others.

All cases are carefully supervised. The client is interviewed and a determination is made as to their employability using the information gathered and current medical records. If it is appropriate to do so, vocational testing is administered. If asked to do so, we assess the duties and job site of the employee’s pre-injury job. If the injured worker cannot return to his or her job, the client is then placed with another employer, using the worker’s transferable skills. If the injured worker is unable to work at all, alternative solutions are offered. Some of these solutions may be assisting the injured employee in applying for social security, early retirement or disability retirement.

A. Case Management

We coordinate with medical providers to obtain information relating to the injured workers’ ability to return to employment:

Coordinate information with nurse case managers

Attend appointments with treating physician

Provide physician with pre-injury job description

Obtain necessary signed documents such as functional capacities forms, approved job descriptions and office notes

Arrange for Functional Capacities Evaluations

Schedule IME and/or Second Opinions

Confirm follow up appointments

When it is appropriate to do so, we arrange for the following in order to place the injured worker as quickly as possible:

Vocational Testing and Evaluations, Independent Medical Examinations

Psychological Examinations, Functional Capacities Evaluations

Work Hardening, Work Adjustment Training, Sheltered Work Shop Employment

Various other tests and evaluations.

B. Vocational Rehabilitation

Job Assessment

We go onsite and prepare accurate job description for physician’s review and approval or disapproval. We also determine if the job can be modified to accommodate limitations of the client. We attend medical appointments with the client in order to monitor medical progress toward recovery and employment readiness.

Job Search

We conduct a Job Search to determine the appropriate, available jobs for each client. We consider the client’s current medical and mental status, education, work experience, demonstrated skills, interests, and other factors that effect employability. We then conduct a transferable skills analysis to determine the type of jobs for which each injured worker is best suited.

Job Placement

Our Job Placement procedure:

Counselor reviews the file notes, job description, physician reports and evaluations, and other pertinent information.

Contact is made with the attorney (if they are represented).

Client is interviewed and we determine the types of jobs that he or she is capable of performing using transferable skills and considering the physical or mental capabilities.

Appropriate industries and types of jobs are identified.

Résumé is prepared and client is given job searching skills information and coaching.

Employment search is conducted using all available resources, such as: telephone contact with prospective employers, Internet job search, Virginia Employment Commission search, local newspapers.

Weekly or biweekly job search appointments are scheduled.

At each job search appointment, Client is taken personally by the counselor to prospective employers to complete applications, submit résumés and attend job interviews. This process is repeated until Client is meaningfully employed

Written Reports

We submit detailed written reports as necessary in a timely manner. This will be at least every 30 days.

Cost of Services

This is a flat rate and includes all expenses. (Mileage, postage, copies, telephone calls, travel expenses, etc.). We do our best to keep down costs to insure cost containment.
