Our Staff

All Vocational Counselors for Broughton Associates, Inc. are Certified Rehabilitation Providers and are licensed by theCommonwealth of Virginia. A brief summary of each counselor is included below.

 

 

H. Gray Broughton, Chief Executive Officer and Owner of Broughton Associates, Inc., has over twenty-two years of experience in vocational rehabilitation. He is a Certified Rehabilitation Provider, a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, and a Certified Case Manager.  He has personally worked over one thousand cases and has supervised many others.  Mr. Broughton attended the University of Richmond and received his BA in 1965 and is currently enrolled in a post graduate program at Auburn University.  He is the former Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services. Most of his adult life has involved community activities, and he has a wealth of business contacts.  This has enabled him to place many workers’ compensation claimants when others have failed to do so. He reviews and coordinates rehabilitation plans and is available to work any problem case on an as needed basis.

 

 

William H. Parrish, IV, Certified Rehabilitation Provider and Job Placement Specialist, has been withBroughton Associates, Inc. since February 1992.  He has worked over five hundred cases in the past ten years.   He is a native of Richmond and received his BS fromHamptonSydneyCollege in 1970. He was in business for himself for fourteen years and understands the employment process. His local contacts in the business community are a valuable asset in the placement of injured workers. He is an excellent job placement specialist and is very thorough in his approach.

 

 

Gail E. Broughton, Certified Rehabilitation Provider and Job Placement Specialist, has specialized in the job placement of workers’ compensation claimants for over ten years and has worked over five hundred cases.  Her professional approach and attention to detail has led to successful results in over 90% of the cases in which she has been involved.  She has a solid business management background.  Her work experience in Human Resources and her professional contacts in centralVirginia have been a great asset in getting people back to work.

She was appointed to the Virginia Board for People with Disabilities and served as the Chairman of the Employment Committee.  She has in-depth knowledge of the resources available to individuals with physical limitations, as well as a working relationship with employers who have favorable hiring policies.

  

Job Developers:

Our staff provides inside support for rehabilitative counselors. They research prospective employers and industries, conduct job searches using all resources (e.g., Virginia Employment Commission, Internet, newspapers, employer directories). They make phone contact with prospective employers and schedule job interviews.  All three are skilled in preparing résumés and cover letters for individuals with difficult work and personal histories. Their innovative approach to overcoming difficult employment histories and research skill are invaluable in finding jobs for injured workers.

 

 

Specific Qualifications & Skills:

 

  • Twenty-eight years of experience in job placement of Workers’ Compensations claimants
  • Counselors are long time residents of the area and have established relationships with prospective employers and employment organizations throughout the Commonwealth
  • Counselors attend seminars and educational programs on a continual basis. Our firm provides the funding for these programs and supports attendance.  Continuing educations sources: VirginiaWorkers Compensations Commission, International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals, American Board of Vocational Experts, Virginia Self Insured Association, National Association of Personal Services, Various Legal Firms, Lorman Education Services.
  • Each counselor works between eight and twelve cases at any given time.  Claimants are contacted on a weekly or biweekly basis for job placement appointments and supported via phone with assistance in applying for jobs and providing additional job leads. We also accompany claimants to job interviews
  • Thorough knowledge of  the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act
  • We abide by The Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission’s Guidelines for Vocational Rehabilitation
